In recent GCDTR seminar, “American Diabetes Association Roadmap to a World Free from Diabetes,” by Charles “Chuck” Henderson and Rita Rastogi Kalyani shared how the ADA is advancing a coordinated strategy to reduce the burden of diabetes and obesity, spanning research, policy, clinical practice, and community engagement.
Key highlights:
- Priority focus areas include diabetes prevention and management, health access, nutrition and wellness, obesity, and primary/collaborative care
- Strong emphasis on health access: tailoring outreach, improving health literacy, and addressing barriers to care in resource-limited communities
- The ADA’s expanding obesity agenda: recognizing obesity as a chronic disease, addressing weight stigma and bias, and advancing standards-based care
- Increased support for early-career investigators, postdoctoral fellowships, and the Pathway to Stop Diabetes program
- A global lens: strengthening collaborations with international partners to accelerate dissemination of evidence-based care and education Watch the full recording here: lnkd.in/eJjgwfSw Emory Global Diabetes Research Center Emory University School of Medicine Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University Georgia Institute of Technology Emory University Morehouse School of Medicine
