Enrichment Program

Advancing diabetes translation research by connecting investigators to scientific exchange, practical skill-building, mentorship, and collaborative networks across the GCDTR. Through seminars, workgroups, and shared resources, the program helps investigators strengthen research capabilities, build new collaborations, and translate ideas into impact.

About the Program

Enrichment connects the people, ideas, and capabilities that move diabetes translation research forward.

The Enrichment Program serves as a Center-wide connector for multidisciplinary investigators, clinicians, trainees, community partners, and other stakeholders. It creates a shared academic environment where GCDTR members can encounter new ideas, build relationships across disciplines and institutions, and access development opportunities that strengthen diabetes translation research.

Role Within the Center

A connector across GCDTR Cores and Programs

Enrichment is designed to integrate and amplify the work of the Center rather than operate as a stand-alone program.

  • Data, AI, and Design Core
  • Community Engagement, Clinical Linkages, and Behavioral Sciences Core
  • Regional Technology Core
  • Pilot and Feasibility Program

2026-2031 Program Aims

What the Enrichment Program is designed to accomplish

Aim 01

Expand the educational and academic environment

Host multidisciplinary presentations, panels, Grand Rounds, networking, and skill-building across GCDTR and partner institutions.

Aim 02

Create a central knowledge-sharing venue

Maintain accessible recorded lectures, panels, tools, and materials while supporting investigator connections across the Southeast.

Aim 03

Build faculty and postdoctoral capacity

Deliver quarterly Research Skills, Academic Skills, and Research Incubator workgroups with hands-on development and mentoring.

Aim 04

Evaluate and continuously improve programming

Use annual member surveys and interviews to refine offerings, outreach, communication, and relevance to Center needs.

How the Program Works

Three complementary ways to learn, develop, and connect

Programming is coordinated with GCDTR Cores and the Pilot and Feasibility Program so that scientific exchange, skill-building, and collaboration reinforce one another without duplicating the same activity.

Scientific Exchange

Seminars, panel discussions, symposia, Grand Rounds, and invited presentations expose members to emerging methods, findings, and perspectives in diabetes translation research.

Program Elements

  • Multidisciplinary expert speakers
  • Center and regional co-hosting
  • In-person and virtual participation

Quarterly Workgroups

Hands-on workgroups provide structured development around three areas that directly support investigators and trainees.

Program Elements

  • Research Skills - methods, design, analysis and translation
  • Academic Skills - grants, manuscripts, communication and career development
  • Research Incubators - senior-to-early-stage feedback on grants and research in progress

Knowledge, Networks and Improvement

The Program extends beyond individual events by maintaining reusable resources, building connections, and continuously improving its offerings.

Program Elements

  • Recorded lectures, panels, tools and materials
  • Networking across GCDTR, Georgia and regional partners
  • Annual member surveys and key-informant interviews

Center Priorities

Programming follows the Center's strategic research areas

Enrichment topics are shaped around areas where the Center is intentionally growing knowledge, collaboration, and translational impact.

Rural Health

Research and implementation challenges affecting rural communities and care delivery.

Diabetes Across the Lifecourse

Translation research spanning children, adults, and older populations.

Precision Diabetes

Approaches that better match prevention, treatment, and care to individual and population needs.

AI & Technology

Responsible use of data, artificial intelligence, digital tools, and diabetes technologies.

Participate and Stay Connected

Multiple ways to engage with the Enrichment Program

Programming serves GCDTR members, early-stage and established investigators, postdoctoral fellows, and collaborators across the Center and its partner network.
