National Center for Health Statistics US mortality data

Description:U.S. Mortality data, collected and maintained by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), can be analyzed with the SEER*Stat software. The data include all causes of death, not just cancer deaths. NCHS granted the SEER program limited permission to provide the mortality data to the public.

SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth Study

Description: SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth is a national multi-center study aimed at understanding more about diabetes among children and young adults in the United States. SEARCH is funded by the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).

Coverage: SEARCH Study centers are located in five states – South Carolina, Ohio, Colorado, California, and Washington. Some centers have various locations within each state. The Coordinating Center is located in North Carolina.

Description of Cohort: There are more than 20,000 study participants representing all different racial and ethnic backgrounds who have helped SEARCH determine the extent of diabetes in the community and its impact on different populations.

Medicaid Claims

Description:

Medicaid programs that operate a fee-for-service system pay providers directly for their services. In order to receive payment, providers bill the Medicaid program for payment by submitting a claim. The data from these claims create a snapshot of services provided to Medicaid beneficiaries from both inpatient and outpatient care, as well as other services including pharmacy and home health care.

Veterans Health Administration Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW)

Veterans Health Administration Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW)

Description:

Contains over 20 million unique patient records (2014 estimate) collected from nearly 3 decades of health care. This data is enriched with Veterans’ demographics, claims and patient-level data used in day-to-day inpatient and outpatient clinical care, medical and administrative information on care obtained within the VHA system and some care obtained externally (fee-basis data), medication exposures including medication doses and formulations, dates medications were ordered and dispensed, and quantities dispensed. Outcome measures including time to hospitalization and death is also available within the CDW, as is vital status on all veterans from external sources including from Medicare and Social Security. These resources are available within the Veterans Administrations Informatics and Computing Infrastructure (VINCI), a secure computing environment enabling researchers access to nationwide, regional and local datasets.
